Lost in Grief, Found in Hope
A Family's Story of Hope
Hussein, his wife Safaa, and their five children left their small village of Shmistar in the Beqaa Valley, hoping for a fresh start in Beirut. However, what awaited them was heartbreak. Safaa’s brother was tragically killed in the Beirut blast, shattering the family’s hopes for a better life. Grief consumed Safaa, and her sorrow rippled through the entire family. Despite seeking trauma counseling and psychiatric help, nothing seemed to ease her burden.
As if grief wasn’t enough, violence in Lebanon brought fresh waves of fear. Recent bombings in Beqaa left Safaa’s children terrified, clinging to their mother at night for comfort. Their eldest son, Youssef, dreamt of escaping this turmoil through a scholarship abroad, but the war has stalled his plans. Trapped in uncertainty, the family’s hope was slipping away.
In their darkest moments, Call of Hope’s team began visiting Safaa’s family, bringing essential supplies and something even greater—the hope of the Gospel. At first, their hearts were heavy, but slowly, God began to work. Through prayer and Scripture, peace started to break through their fear.
COH's Lebanon Team Director shares from John 16;33
One passage in particular touched their hearts deeply:
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
As the team shared about the Prince of Peace, Safaa and her children were moved by the love and compassion of Christ. They were astonished by the idea of a Father who loves His children deeply—a love unlike anything they had known. “Allah does not love like this,” they said with wonder.
Today, Safaa’s family is beginning to heal. Their journey is far from over, but they’ve found a flicker of hope in the darkness. The peace they now feel is a reminder of God’s power to transform even the most broken lives.
