How the Financial Crisis in Lebanon has Affected Syrian Refugees
Bekaa Valley — Lebanon
Over the past six months Lebanon has experienced significant economic decay affecting both Lebanese citizens and the millions of Syrian refugees that now call Lebanon home. Protestors are angry at Lebanese government over their failure to address the recession. Unemployment is soaring, consumer prices are skyrocketing, jobs are unavailable, and corruption is rampant!
To make matters worse, locals find themselves with limited access to whatever money they do have. Our Frontline Workers have even reported waits as long as four hours at banks for simple withdrawals.
With Lebanese citizens dealing with their own crisis, the millions of Syrian refugees have been forgotten by everyone. Everyone that is except Call of Hope Frontline Workers. By God’s grace, lives are continuing to touched by the love of Jesus. We have found ways to navigate the financial crisis to continue to provide support and the love of Jesus to refugees settles in the Bekaa Valley.
SHOWING THE LOVE OF CHRIST IN PRACTICAL WAYS
Despite the challenges of a near economic collapse, our Frontline Workers are trusting God. Call of Hope has adapted to the changing circumstances and has found new ways to aid refugees at their most desperate hour. We are providing refugees with Bibles, life-saving aid, food, as well as weekly bible studies to encourage Muslim converts in their Christian faith.
Now not even able to find day labor, many of these victims have lost hope as they look for ways for their family to survive. They come defeated, but time and time again we are seeing hearts open to Christ as our Frontline Workers continue to minister the love of Christ and provide their families with food, blankets, and fuel.
