Bread of Life: Call of Hope Distributes 12 Tons of Bread in Lebanon
LEBANON – Once known as the Switzerland of the Middle East, the nation of Lebanon is suffering through one of the worst national crises of its history.
It was only eight months ago that the world was shocked with the news and footage of the blast that annihilated Beirut, killing 200 and displacing 300,000. Then, due to the devaluation of the national currency, Lebanese citizens were left with pennies on the dollar to rebuild and care for their families. To make matters even more desperate, these calamities occurred in the midst of a worldwide pandemic!
In response, Call of Hope is starting new and ambitious initiative. With hunger on the rise, Call of Hope is distributing 12 tons of bread to refugees THIS YEAR!
We have witnessed first hand just how bad the situating has gotten in Lebanon. Although Call of Hope has ministered to the poor and destitute for decades, now even the former middle-class has been thrust into poverty and the people are in need of immediate assistance.
With rampant poverty, crime has been on the rise. Recently the news reported “the crime, killing increased in 2020 by 91 % and stealing by 57 %” we believe in 2021 the killing and stealing will be 4 times more than last year.” To make matters worse, many believe that Lebanon is on the brink of another civil war. Tensions are nearly at a boiling point between Hezbollah and Lebanese forces.
In the light of this terrible situation in Lebanon, we are distributing 12 tons of Arabic bread, but also sharing the bread of life. Each package of bread incudes the words of Jesus in John 6 ,“I am the bread of life.” As we break bread with many Muslims in desperation, it is our prayer that we could also offer the hope that we have in Christ.
Please be in prayer for the nation of Lebanon and the many people who are suffering. Pray also that God would open distant hearts to the message of salvation! Please go to callfohopeus.org/Lebanon to learn more and to be a part of this important project at a critical time in Lebanon’s history.
